Photographs must be taken at a PROFESSIONAL photo studio. Instant photos are NOT acceptable (example those taken at pharmacies/drug stores).

“Photos that do not meet requirements will delay passport processing time.”

When taking your photographs, please note the following guidelines:

  • 2 identical photographs are required
  • The photograph must highlight the face from the chest to crown of head (natural top of head). The photos should measure 50mm x 60mm in size (2 in. wide x 2 3/8 in. high)
  • Photographs should be taken in colour with a matte/dull finish, against a plain background
  • Applicants of light complexion should avoid wearing white clothing and should have photographs taken against a pastel shaded background
  • Applicants of dark complexion should wear coloured clothing and photographs should be taken against a white background.
  • Applicants with grey/white hair should have their photograph taken against a pale blue or pastel background
  • There should be a contrast between the background and your shirt/blouse.
  • Shoulders are to be properly covered. No spaghetti straps, strapless, or sleeveless shirt/blouse must be worn.
  • There must be no other person or object in the photograph
  • There should be no background shadows present behind the head, ears and neck.
  • A full frontal pose is required
  • Both ears and shoulders must be clearly visible.
  • Hair must be away from forehead.
  • Do not
  • There should be no creases or ink marks on the photograph
  • No embossed seal must be affixed to photographs.
  • Remove eyeglasses before taking photographs
  • No hats/head dress are to be worn unless for religious reasons.
  • Do not use paperclips/Staples on photos.
